Tapestry Counseling
Individual & couples therapy in Downtown Indianapolis
Welcome.
I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.
Maybe you’re considering therapy and are curious, or ready to take the next step. Perhaps you’re returning to therapy after time away.
Regardless, you’ve found a safe place to land.
Many of the individuals & couples I have the joy of meeting with have found themselves in a season they didn’t expect; for others, a story they didn’t choose.
But this isn’t the end of your story.
Together we will hold the tension of what is, and together we will identify the barriers and next steps in your path forward.
My Approach
I believe that safe and connected relationships are the vehicle by which change & healing are possible. This encompasses the therapeutic relationship, which means safety is essential to the work we’ll do together. I take a warm and collaborative approach with clients, and welcome laughter & tears.
I practice primarily out of a psychodynamic framework; simply put, I seek to explore how the past informs & influences the present. What are the relational patterns from your past that are being re-enacted in your present? And how are unconscious motivations influencing your behavior? My hope for each person, through reflection and attuned observation, is to recognize and trust their voice, as this is a powerful agent of change.
I apply a culturally sensitive, attachment-based, neurodiversity affirming lens in my work with clients.
While therapy is only a small part of your week, it offers a safe container to practice how you desire to relate with and move through the world.
Hi, I’m Emily.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker whose career has been woven together by several rich experiences over the past two decades. My early years spent working in refugee resettlement left an indelible mark on the way I relate to and view the world. Not only did it provide me with a culturally-sensitive, trauma-informed lens that I continue to use daily in my therapy practice, it also taught me how to understand people in the context of their greater story and to hold each one with compassion & care.
As a therapist, I continue to find that people’s stories are the most compelling part of the work I do, and I count it sacred each time a person invites me into the story unfolding in their life.
I earned my Masters degree from Loyola University Chicago and have completed advanced training through Imago Therapy, Postpartum Support International, Enneagram Insight, and Prepare Enrich.
